Yoga is a great way to connect. It helps you connect with your mind, body, and spirit, but it is also a great way to connect you to your friends and loved ones! Doing yoga with friends can make the process more enjoyable. You're more likely to stick to it, and you get to spend some time with someone you like. It is a fabulous medium for building stronger communication and intimacy in just about any kind of relationship, whether it is friendship, a family member, or your significant other.

If you're new to yoga, you can join a class with a friend to get started. If you've done yoga for a while but you want a friend to join, you can take steps to make it easier for them. Here are 5 great reasons to bring along a friend or partner:

1) It gives you confidence

If you are someone who has never taken a yoga class or if you always get nervous before entering class, having a friend with you can ease your mind! You have a bit more confidence and motivation to practice. It is a relief to see a familiar face when!

2) Motivate each other to be consistent

We've all got home from work on a cold dreary day and thought that the couch looked way more inviting than heading back out to get to a yoga class. However, the key to advancing your yoga practice is consistency. If you have promised to meet at friend at class; you'll feel much more inclined to stick with your intention.

3) Get chance to properly connect

Humans are social animals. We are wired to crave contact with other humans. It's one thing being in a room with a bunch of other people, this is very different to sharing the experience of going to class with a friend. Heading to class together also means you get precious distraction-free chat time before and after class as well as a shared interest to keep conversation flowing over coffee (or wine!) afterwards. 

4) Encourage each other to try new things and develop your practice

It can be daunting to sign up to workshops or events alone, despite wanting to deepen your yoga knowledge. It's a lot easier to walk in with a friend! Even in a regular class or practice, yogi friends help encourage each other to grow and develop their physical practice. It doesn't matter whether they vocalize their support when you are attempting your first headstand; or you just know they are willing you on. Having the positive energy of a friend around makes us feel safer and more confident to push our boundaries and try that challenge pose!

5) Bond on a whole new level

There is something incredibly special about practicing yoga in a group or pair. The energies within and around you start to harmonize and a feeling you can't put your finger on starts to build. Yoga encourages us to follow the path of love and the yoga room is often a safe space where we can feel and express our love for the other humans we are practicing with.
